Terms of Use

1. Free of charge

You may download, install and use SceneMill free of charge, privately and commercially. Videos you make with SceneMill are yours; SceneMill claims no rights to them.

2. Sharing

You may pass on the unmodified installer or program free of charge. You may not sell SceneMill or offer it as part of a paid product or service without written permission.

3. SceneMill's own code

SceneMill itself is not open source. Except as allowed in section 4 or by law, you may not modify, decompile or disassemble SceneMill's own program files.

4. Open source components

SceneMill contains and uses open source software (Qt, FFmpeg, whisper.cpp and others, listed in THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md, in the “licenses” folder and under Help > Licenses). Those components are licensed to you under their own licenses, not under these terms, and nothing in these terms limits the rights those licenses give you. In particular, for the components under the GNU Lesser General Public License (Qt, FFmpeg), you may replace their libraries (the Qt6*.dll, av*.dll and sw*.dll files) with modified versions, and you may modify SceneMill for your own use and reverse-engineer it to the extent needed to debug such modifications.

5. No warranty

SceneMill is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind. Keep copies of your media and projects. To the extent permitted by law, the authors are not liable for any damage or data loss arising from the use of SceneMill.

6. Your data

SceneMill works on your computer. It sends no telemetry and does not upload your media or projects. Optional downloads (such as the speech models for automatic subtitles) happen only when you start them.
