    Effects, transitions and color

    Effects

    • The Effects tab holds 101 effects and color looks. Click one to see it on your clip in the viewer first; drag it onto a clip or double-click it to apply it to the selected clips.
    • A clip's effects are listed in the inspector under Effects: set them with sliders, switch one off, change the order or remove it.
    • Edit › Save Effects as Preset keeps a clip's effects with all their settings; you find them under My Presets in the Effects library.
    • Effects from plugins appear in the same library.

    Transitions

    • The Transitions tab holds 49 transitions. Hover over one to see it, then drag it onto the cut between two clips that touch. Double-click adds it at the cut nearest the playhead; Ctrl + D adds a cross dissolve there.
    • Select a transition on the timeline to set its length. Apply to all cuts on this track gives every cut of the track the same transition.

    Color

    • Color Presets in the Effects library give a clip a finished look with one click.
    • Color correction, curves, color wheels and .cube LUTs are effects like the others, so they can be keyframed and combined.
    • Timeline › Color › Auto Enhance balances a clip by itself; Match Color To makes it look like another clip; Remove Auto Color takes it back.
    • Ctrl + Shift + C copies a clip's grade (its color effects and their keyframes), Ctrl + Shift + V pastes it onto the selected clips. Edit › Save Grade as Preset keeps it.
    • View › Scopes shows the waveform, RGB parade, vectorscope and histogram of the picture.

    Chroma key

For green or blue screen footage: select the clip and switch on Chroma Key on the inspector's Video page; it makes the background color transparent, and the clips below show through.

    Masks

The Masks page of the inspector limits where a clip is visible: rectangle, ellipse, polygon or freehand, drawn on the viewer. Masks can be inverted and feathered, have their own opacity, and can be animated, and tracked to follow something that moves.
