Animation, speed and layout
Keyframes
Every numeric setting can change over time: position, scale, rotation, opacity, effect amounts, volume. Click the diamond next to a slider to set a keyframe, move the playhead, change the value; SceneMill fills in the movement between.
- Timeline › Motion › Keyframe Curves (Ctrl + Shift + K) opens the curve editor: shape how a value moves between its keys, or pick an easing such as Smooth, Overshoot or Bounce.
- Several keys can be selected, moved and eased at once.
- Ctrl + Alt + C copies a clip's transform (position, scale, rotation), Ctrl + Alt + V pastes it onto the selected clips.
Ready-made motion
- Inspector › Animation: Ken Burns, zoom in, zoom out and pans move the whole clip, for photos and still shots. Set per clip.
- In & Out: fade, slide, scale or pop at the start and end.
Speed
- Timeline › Speed: slow motion (0.25×, 0.5×), normal, fast forward (2×, 4×).
- Reverse (Ctrl + R) plays the selected clips backwards.
- Freeze Frame (Ctrl + Alt + F) holds the picture at the playhead.
- A Speed Ramp on the inspector's Video page changes the speed smoothly within a clip.
Split screen and picture in picture
- Select two to four clips and choose a layout under Timeline › Split Screen & PiP: side by side, top and bottom, three columns or rows, one big and two or three small, or a 2 × 2 grid. Gaps between the panes and rounded corners can be switched on.
- PiP shrinks the selected clip into a framed window in one of the four corners.
