    Smart tools

These tools analyse your footage on your own computer. Nothing is uploaded, and every result is an ordinary edit that can be undone.

    Assistant: silences and scene changes

Open View › Assistant. Find Silences looks for quiet passages, Find Scene Changes for cuts in long recordings (the sensitivity decides how soft a change it notices). The results are suggestions: preview each one, then apply or ignore it, or all at once. Removing a silence closes the gap.

    Edit by text

The Transcript tab beside the library (View › Transcript) shows what is said in the recording of the selected clip. Transcribe writes it down once, with the speech recognition of the automatic subtitles, and keeps it in the project. Select words and press Delete (or Cut Selected Words): they are cut out of picture and linked sound, and the gap closes; words that follow each other go in one cut with the pauses between them. Cut words stay struck through. Remove Filler Words cuts every "um", "uh", "äh" at once. Click a word to move the playhead there. Step by step: edit by text.

    Automatic subtitles

See titles and subtitles and the guide to automatic subtitles.

    Slideshow

Timeline › Create Slideshow makes a slideshow of the photos selected in the media library (or of all of them, in the order the library shows them), after what is already on the timeline: how long each photo shows, one transition on every cut or several that take turns (in their order or mixed, a new one at every photo or after as many as you set), Ken Burns or varied motion (zooms and pans in turn), and a song that ends with the last photo, fading out. Spread the photos over the whole song makes the slideshow exactly as long as the music. The dialog says how long it gets before anything is made. Step by step: photo slideshow.

    Auto Reframe

Timeline › Auto Reframe turns a video into another format, for example 9:16 for Shorts, and keeps what matters in the frame by following the action. Choose a calm or a fast-following movement, and all clips or only the selected ones.

    Auto Highlights

Timeline › Auto Highlights finds the best moments of your clips and puts them together into a short montage, optionally with the clips' own sound quieter under music.

    Stabilize

Timeline › Motion › Stabilize Video calms shaky footage. Remove Stabilization takes it back.

    Tracking

    • Put a mask around something that moves and click Track Forward or Track Backward on the Masks page: the mask follows it, frame by frame, as keyframes you can correct.
    • Timeline › Motion › Follow Object Under It (Ctrl + Alt + O) makes a title, sticker or blur follow the tracked movement of the clip below.

    Color and beats

Auto Enhance and Match Color are under effects and color, beat detection under sound.
